1 TUTORIAL NAVIANCE and COMMON APPLICATION

2 BEFORE you apply to college:
1. Professional address 2. Clean up all Social Media

3 Applying to college is a Fall semester, senior year activity
Applying to college is a Fall semester, senior year activity. Advisors actively monitor senior Naviance accounts in the Fall semester only. If you are working on college applications in the Spring semester, you must your Advisor so that your Advisor is prompted to view your Naviance account.

4 Advisors are able to forward your documents electronically only if you apply using Naviance and Common App. If you chose to use a different service to apply to college, it is your responsibility to figure out how to send your Advisor a link through which your documents can be uploaded. Apply Texas does not send your Advisor a link to upload your documents. Instead, after you apply using Apply Texas, you will need to create an account at each college to which you applied. In each college account, you must locate the link to forward to your Advisor so that your documents may be uploaded. Alternatively, you can always request a hard copy of your transcript from the Registrar and U.S. mail it to the college yourself.

5 Why Naviance? 1. Centralized database that holds all college documents. 2. Communicates with Common App. 3. Documents are forwarded to colleges electronically avoiding possibility of getting lost in the US Mail. 4. Streamlines the college application process so that Lamar’s Academic Advisors, Registrar, and teachers can better serve 3200 students including 827 seniors.

TASK 1 Request a Recommendation Letter aka “Rec Letter”, “Written Evaluation” from your Academic Advisor (AA)

7 TASK 2 Request a Recommendation Letter from (2) teachers

8 TASK 3 Apply to college using The Common Application aka “Common App”

9 Why Common App? 1. One application that is used to apply to all colleges. 2. Common App can access documents stored in Naviance. 3. Can add additional colleges if you decide to apply to more. 4. Streamlines the college application process so that Lamar’s Academic Advisors, Registrar, and teachers can better serve 3200 students including 827 seniors

12 TASK 6 Request your transcripts
