1 Year 11 Research Project Introductory Days Term 2 2019

2 The Basics… Research Project is a compulsory, 10- credit subject.
Students must achieve a C- or better to complete the subject successfully and gain their SACE. Is a SACE Stage 2 subject. Research Project may contribute to a student’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

3 Why? You choose an area of interest to research and develop a research question – the choice of topic is yours! “The Research Project enables students to explore an area of interest in depth, while developing skills to prepare them for further education, training, and work. Students develop their ability to question sources of information, make effective decisions, evaluate their own progress, be innovative, and solve problems.” SACE Board Research Project Subject Outline, 2019.

4 Topic Choice… Some topic choices are better than others… TWO IMPORTANT THINGS Choose a topic you are interested in, but don’t know much about. Choose a topic where you can get a variety of sources i.e. websites, interviews, surveys, videos, academic reports etc.

Assessments There are three assessment tasks for Research Project: FOLIO (research) % OUTCOME (presentation of research) 40% EVALUATION (reflection on research) 30%

6 What do Research Project lessons look like?
You get 5 lessons a week. Independent work using RP weebly site BUT teacher is supporting. Regular discussions with teachers.

7 The Weebly Site… The RP course is run through the weebly site above (you have all been ed this link). There are 20 steps to complete the Research project journey. Over the next two days, you will start the steps of the weebly site.

8 Current year 12 examples/stories
We will now look at some current year 12 research project topics/outcomes. These may give you inspiration for your topic, how you want to present your outcome etc. Remember, ask questions if you have any!

9 What happens if I don’t work hard?
You have to start Research Project again…

10 What do I do now? Think… What interests me?
What do I want to find out about? What resources/contacts have I got?

11 Questions… There is a question box in student services.
You can write down any question about Research Project you have over the next two days and put it in the box. We will then read these out and answer them this afternoon when we all meet again.

12 Holiday Homework You will all be expected to complete the following holiday homework so you start Research Project on a good note. Complete up to step 9 on the weebly site Collect 10 sources You can of course continue if you want, however the above is the minimum required.

13 Teachers and Rooms for Wed & Thurs
Go to your allocated rooms. This is where you will be for the rest of Wednesday morning and Thursday. Get logged on to the weebly site, talk to your teacher anytime etc. These are your actual classes and teachers for semester 2.
