1. THE STORY OF HAjDI

2. A long, long time ago, in the era of fairies, elves and wizards, giants called Hajdi used to live in the hills near the town of Samobor. They were so tall that ordinary people could only reach their knees. They were so strong that they could pull any tree off the ground and use it as a mace.

3. They resided in caves in the thickest part of the forest.

4. It is SAID that they had a cemetery on the top of Hajdovčak hill
It is SAID that they had a cemetery on the top of Hajdovčak hill. The Saint Cross chapel in Otruševec was built by them – to build it, they didn’t need any ladders or cranes.

5. When ordinary people came to Samobor, they outnumbered Hajdi quickly and started to drive them away. In order to protect THEMSELVES from people, Hajdi started to build large fences, made out of big rocks and trees.

6. When people saw that they are well protected, they started to build fences around their houses, as well.

7. In time, they had to give more and more ground to the ordinary people, so finally, only one hill remained their home. This hill is now days called Hajdovčak – IT IS SAID THAT in its old cemetery some giant bones CAN still be found.
