4. What is special needs? A child has special education needs if:
They have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for her or him.
For children aged 2 or more, special educational provision is educational provision or training provision that is additional to or different from that made generally for other children or young people the same age.
This means anything more than most children would need in a mainstream setting. So here we have 13 children with 1 key worker. If after settling a child cant sit with the group/access their learning throughout the nursery in the way that most children can then they might have a special need. Such children will need close monitoring and might need extra support to enable them to achieve this.

5. Areas of need:
Children may be identified as having difficulties within the following broad areas of need:
Communication and Interaction
Cognition and Learning
Social emotional and mental health difficulties
Sensory and or physical needs
Explain what each of these in brief:
1- Talking, understanding, playing with other children/joining in/playing alone…
2- What they are able to do developmentally- follow the EYFS Curriculum which shows what most children can do in each area of learning-7
3-Struggle emotional needs, Autism..
4- Gross or fine motor delays, need to touch, smell, more than most, loud noise intolerant, all affect learning.

7. Why is it important to identify special needs early?
The first 5 years of a child’s life can affect future outcomes
Appropriate provision enables development and success
Social impacts of SEN
Putting the right provision in early can mean that a child has access to the best learning provision possible.
Depending on the type of SEND early intervention can really mean the difference between a positive school/educational experience and a negative one.

8. What resources do we have at New Bridge to support children with Special needs?
