2. Welcome to Mr. Curry’s class.
FOREWORD
Welcome to Mr. Curry’s class.
I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially.
Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.

3. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES?
A procedure is the way that we do things.
To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example:
In PE, to open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer.
To cook a delicious meal, you need to follow the steps in the recipe.
To place a call on your phone, you need to dial the number in the right order.
So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

4. ENTRANCE Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class.
Enter the classroom quietly.
Go directly to your assigned seat.
Get ready for your work.

5. RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS
Immediately start the bellwork that will be written on the board.
Do the bellwork in your journal.
When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction.

6. DURING INSTRUCTION Listen to the teacher with full attention.
No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering.
Don’t write anything during instruction, unless told otherwise. You will be given time for taking notes.
Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.
Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction.
After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

7. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING
Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them.
If you didn’t understand, quietly ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it.
If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best.
Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise.
Respect each other and be friendly.
Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

8. KEEPING YOUR JOURNAL
You should have a writing journal which will be used for only your language arts class. (A composition notebook is recommended.)
Use pen or pencil to write in your journal. Using two different colors, one for the titles and a different one for the body of the text, will make your journal look better and more organized.
The first page should be the title page. Write your full name, section, and school name on it.
Number the pages in the right bottom corner.
Always write the titles with capital letters.
Each day, put the date first.
Keep your journal clean and organized.
Your journal will be collected and checked from time to time. Turn it in on time when you are asked.
Take good care of your journal. Do not lose it.

9. IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND
Stop whatever you are doing at that moment.
Face the teacher and wait silently.
Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand.
No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

10. AFTER YOU ARE DONE
Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly.
If the assignment is to be turned in, do so into the correct box for your class.
Silently read. (Read your book, magazine, etc.)

11. DISMISSAL Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can.
Wait for Mr. Curry to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you.
After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly.

12. HOMEWORK PROCEDURE You will be given homework on most days, M-Th.
You MUST write down all assignments in the “binder reminder”
For Spelling, the weekly packet is due by Friday, including puzzles, definitions, worksheets and sentences/paragraphs, and words missed on the pre-test written 5 X each.

13. Classroom Supplies
You are expected to have the basic supplies for class by September 2nd.
In Mr. Curry’s Class the Supplies are:
Several sheets of binder paper
2 sharpened or lead pencils
2 black or blue ball point pens
Notebook/journal and binder reminder
If you can’t afford the supplies, ask Mr. Curry as I purchased some extras.

14. WHEN YOU ARE TARDY Stand by Mr. Curry’s desk.
Inform him of your excuse or give him your tardy pass.
Go to your seat after you are given permission to do so.
You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home.

15. WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT
Get the assignments from your classmates or online at and the worksheet from Mr. Curry. Do the work at home.
If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Mr. Curry and arrange a time to make up the test after school. If it is on you can take it at home or at the library.
You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments.

17. Class PROJECTS
Among the most exciting activities in your Language Arts and Social Studies classes are individual and small group projects.
You are required to do several projects each year. Due dates will be announced later this year.
We are using Cooperative Learning groups this year. We will change groups every 6 weeks or so.

If you or your parents don’t have internet access, just ask Mr. Curry for a printout. Major recording of grades occur on Sunday and an is sent with a quick link to just your grades.

I often give you 2-3 chances to improve your grade.
For Spelling, we have a pretest on Monday and a post test on Friday. If you score 100% on the pretest, you do not need to take the post test on Friday.

We are using cooperative learning groups throughout the year.
Students will be assigned seating in small cooperative learning groups of Seating groups will change every 6-9 weeks.
Cooperative Learning Groups will help each member of the group learn more by participating in fun and exciting teambuilding and class building activities.

Technology
We use technology everyday. We have 10 working computers in our classroom because Mr. Curry is “Mr. Technology”
Students use computers for research, writing, creating multimedia projects and much more!
Mr. Curry got a grant from the Berryessa Education Foundation so we have our own LCD projector!
Groups also can create their own iMovies in class!
