absolute value The distance the number is from zero on a number line.

additive inverse Two integers that are opposites. The sum of an integer and its additive inverse is zero.

integer The set of whole numbers and their opposites. Any number from the set: {…,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,…}

negative integer An integer that is less than zero.Negative integers are written with a – sign. {…,-4,-3,-2,-1}

opposites Two integers are opposites if they are represented on a number line by points that are the same distance from zero, but on opposite sides of zero. The sum of two opposites is zero.

positive integer An integer that is greater than zero. They are written with or without a + sign. {1,2,3,4,…}
