5. The Allies Strike Back
The Soviet Union wanted another front to be opened to fight the Nazis
The U.S. started fighting in North Africa. We defeated the Nazis and moved to Italy.

6. The D-Day Invasion To end the war there had to be a large invasion
Six months of planning and Allied troops were going to invade the coast of Europe.

7. The Invasion
June 4, 1944
170,000 Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy.
They landed south of where Hitler thought they would. Hitler was tricked.
Deadliest day of fighting in world history.

10. Now where do we go? We fight east, pushing the Germans back to Berlin.
The Allies wanted to force Hitler to surrender.
We bombed their cities day and night.
