SO, PEE ALL OVER YOUR PAPER! P POINT E EVIDENCE E EXPLANATION
3
USE PEE TO SUPPORT YOUR THINKING
PART OF PARAGRAPH FUNCTION OF THE PART P POINT What’s your point? What’s your reason for your opinion? E EVIDENCE What proof do you have? EXPLANATION Compare your two columns to create your criticism/praise- How does your evidence support your point? Think about why was it better or worse? Combine words and phrases from your evidence sentence and from your point sentence to EXPLAIN your opinion.
4
The Explanation: Your explanation shows HOW your evidence proves your point. Highlight the specific reason in your P (topic sentence). Highlight the key words in your evidence that relate to the specific reason in your topic sentence. Blenderize (mix) the highlighted pieces into your own words in the explanation. For every one sentence of copied evidence write 4-5 sentences of explanation. Weak writers copy 5 sentences of evidence and explain the point in 1 sentence. Explain why you choose THAT particular piece of evidence. Be specific! Include what you highlighted - use synonyms so you don’t sound repetitive.
