3. Simple Sentences Example: The team and the coach
A Simple Sentence has one independent clause. (A clause is simply a subject and its verb.)
Example: The team flew to Chicago.
The Simple Sentence can have more than one subject and more than one verb, but it has only one independent clause.
Example: The team and the coach
flew to Chicago and won the debate.

Identify the subject(s) then the verb.
If there’s an Action Verb, can you identify the Direct Object?
If linking, do you see the Subject Complement?
Notice the verb types here:

Subject + verb + conjunction + subject + verb
Ex. Hannah laughed and Jasmine cried.

Examples:
Sam and Mary went to the store.
I like ice cream but not on Mondays.
Birds make great pets, because they’re easy to keep.

7. Compound Sentences
A semi-colon can also be used to join two independent clauses that are related in meaning.
Example:
The art gallery has closed for the day; it will open tomorrow morning.

8. Complex Sentences
Complex Sentences use conjunctions to create independent and subordinate clauses. A clause simply means subject with verb. An Independent, or Main Clause, can stand as a sentence by itself. A Subordinate Clause means, it cannot be a sentence by itself or else it’d be a fragment.
Example:
Because the library was closed, I couldn’t finish my project.

A Complex Sentence is an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clause.
Example:

A Compound-Complex sentence is a compound sentence with one or more dependent clauses.
Example:
