18. Advanced Placement Classes
College level class taught by a teacher on our campus or Online
At the end of the class, you can pay $94 to take an exam that you may earn college credit if you score a 3, 4, or 5 out of 5.
Chemistry II AP, English Literature and Composition(Edgenuity), AP World History(Edgenuity), AP Calculus AB(Edgenuity)

These classes do not count towards weighted
GPAs
If you are interested in taking this class, indicate this on your schedule sheet.
AP classes will have more weight than Honors classes for recognition at graduation.

19. Dual Enrollment
 A dual enrollment class is a college course taken on the high school campus, and the successful completion of this course earns the student both high school and college credit.
As a college course, it is governed by the crediting university's policies including attendance, syllabus and grading. Iberia Parish School District cannot overrule these policies.  
The grade a student earns in this course will affect high school GPA, but more importantly, college GPA. As a college course, the grade earned in this course will become a part of the student's college transcript and can affect TOPS funding. 

20. Dual Enrollment cont.
Students must qualify to enroll in dual enrollment course.  (Please check these requirements for the university you are using.) If a student intends to take a dual enrollment course, but does not have the required ACT score(s), then they will need to schedule the June test date and earn the required score in order to enroll in a fall course.  Courses offered in the spring will allow students additional testing opportunities.
A dual enrollment course is an excellent opportunity to earn college credit. Currently, the district is guaranteeing funds for one course per student; however, students interested in more than one course should understand that the cost of a dual enrollment course is much less than the cost of the same course taught on the college campus.  Paying for a dual enrollment course reserves TOPS funds which can be spent later.  The TOPS scholarship pays for 8 full-time college semester. 

21. Dual Enrollment cont.
Scenario 1:  Many students find it difficult to complete their undergraduate degree in 8 semesters. If they do not, then the additional semesters become the responsibility of the student/parent.  Earning low cost credit through dual enrollment makes it much easier to complete their degree in 8 college semesters. It is much cheaper to pay for credits through dual enrollment than it is to pay for additional college semesters. 
Scenario 2:  If a student completes his/her undergraduate degree  in 7 or less semesters because of credits earned in high school through dual enrollment, he/she reserves 1 or more semesters of TOPS funds to pay for graduate school education. 

22. Dual Enrollment for Math
Algebra III will be offered as a Dual Enrollment credit through LSU for Seniors only.
You can earn a college Algebra credit.
In order to be eligible for English Dual Enrollment class, you must score at least an 19 in Math and 18 in English and a 19 Composite on the ACT test with a cumulative GPA of 2.50.

23. Dual Enrollment for English
English III will be offered as a Dual Enrollment credit through LSU for Juniors only.
You can earn college credit for English 1001
In order to be eligible for English Dual Enrollment class, you must score at least an 19 in Math and 18 in English and a 19 Composite on the ACT test with a cumulative GPA of 2.50.

25. ACT test
If you do not have an 18 in English and a 19 in Math on the ACT test and you plan on attending a 4 year university, then you need to work on improving your score through practice and taking the ACT until you achieve your desired score.

Since we are all Free and Reduced Lunch now, each student can use up to 2 fee waivers to take the ACT as an 11th and 12th grader. You must get those individually from Mrs. St. Julien

26. LHS Testing If you do NOT pass your EOC exams, you do NOT graduate.
*All students will take the ACT test as part of school accountability in March.
Juniors will take the ACT test. The test will be free to students because the Louisiana Department of Education is requiring the schools to give the test to all public school students. It will be given on a week day and students will be allowed to use their scores for college entrance requirements.

27. CLEP
College Level Exam Program – students could possibly earn college credit by taking the CLEP exam.
Students can register to take any exam at anytime at

Some of our classes line up with the subject area of the CLEP exams:
Biology II Honors = Biology CLEP exam
American History = US History II CLEP exam
Algebra III = College Algebra CLEP exam
Psychology Honors = Intro to Psychology CLEP exam

28. Honors Program
All honor students are required to complete the following prescribed college preparatory curriculum according to the following schedule.
The Honors Curriculum is aligned with TOPS University curriculum and TOPS requirements.
Additionally, students must complete 16 classes at the Honors level and one additional core class that is accepted by TOPs.
All honor students are required to complete 30 credits total.

29. Honors Program
As an 8th grader, you must make a final grade of A or B in a subject to be eligible for the 9th grade honors class in that subject. For example:
8th grade Math final grade is A = 9th grade Alg I H
8th grade Eng final grade is C = 9th grade Eng I
8th grade Soc St. final grade is B = 9th grade W. Geo H
8th grade Sci final grade is D = 9th grade Physical Sci
As a 9th grader, you must maintain a C or higher average in a subject to continue to be eligible for the 10 grade honors class in that subject. For example:
9th grade Alg I H final grade is C= 10th grade Geom H
9th grade Alg I H final grade is D = 10th grade Geom

30. Honors Program
If you want to move from on-level to Honors classes, your final grade in the class must be a B to move from on-level to Honors. For example:
Algebra I final grade is B = Geometry Honors
Algebra I final grade is C = Geometry
Keep in mind that we are a small school, and we do not have lots of scheduling choices.
It is difficult for me to schedule you with half honors classes and half on-level classes.

31. Graduating with Honors:
If you complete all Honors requirements you will be seated before on-level students.
Students who complete the honors program with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better will be recognized as Distinguished Graduates and you will sit on the first row.
ONLY the Distinguished Graduates GPAs will be weighted for graduating seating purposes on the first row.
All Honors and Advanced Placement classes are weighted heavier than on-level classes.
Advanced Placement classes are weighted the heaviest (except for Eng III GT AP and IV GT AP).

33. Credit Recovery and Grade Recovery
Credit recovery is an instructional program for students who have failed core courses taken previously.  Credit recovery courses are taught using computer software programs aligned with the state’s content standards and grade level expectations.  To recover credit, the student must pass a comprehensive final exam approved by the State Department of Education. A student athlete interested in a Division I or II University MUST repeat the required courses in their entirety to fulfill the NCAA requirements.  Students cannot simply repeat the deficient skills of a required course they fail.  In other words, they cannot use the credit recovery option for promotion of subjects failed.  It will not meet the NCAA requirement for that course.
The student must get permission from their teacher to recover the grade. Then, the student must bring the sheet to Coach Lewis or Ms. Loston and we will set up the student to recover the grade on the computer. Each student has ONE grading period to finish all assignments assigned to the student on the computer.

34. Information on Scheduling!!!
Please take note that prerequisites for certain courses are included. Do not schedule a course with a prerequisite unless you have fulfilled the necessary requirements.
The course directory contains brief descriptions of courses along with necessary information as to grade level prerequisites. Honors, gifted, and advanced placement classes are the highest academic levels. On-level is the average academic level. Be sure that the level of the course fits your abilities and you meet all requirements and prerequisites.
Student schedules will be determined according to their Individual Graduation Plan.
Schedules will not be changed after the first week of a new semester unless the change is approved by the Principal.

35. Information on Scheduling!!!
Schedules will NOT be changed without parental approval!!!!!!!
Students may not receive credit for the same course twice.
A Job Specialty must be completed in order to be allowed to graduate with a High School Diploma in the JumpStart Curriculum. Electives must be related to the student’s Job Specialty. This applies to the incoming Freshman of and beyond. In order for a student to complete a Job Specialty, he/she must complete 9 credit hours in the chosen specialty.
You must also earn an Industry Based Certification in order to graduate in the Jumpstart Program.

37. Course Request Form
9th,10th ,11th , and 12th Grade classes have been assigned to you on your course request form.
If you desire to take any of these courses as an Honors course, please place an “H” next to that course.
If you desire elective changes, scratch thru the elective listed and replace with the one you would like to take.
Please leave a phone number where you can be reached on the bottom of the course request and any notes that you need me to know for next year.
Student and Parents please sign both sides(IGP and Request Form) and Consent Forms.

38. Seniors Only
If you desire Partial Day, please write partial day as your elective.
For example, if you only have 6 credits, you would write partial day twice. If you have only 4 credits, you would write partial day 4 times.
If you only have 4 credits on your schedule form and do not write partial day or electives, electives will be chosen for you.
Individual Scheduling will be June 4th (Last names) A-K and June 5th L-Z
from 8am-11am and 1pm-2pm

Students will be held responsible for schedule requests.
If you do not turn in this form, your counselor will make your schedule, and you may not be able to change any of the courses that your counselor schedules for you!!!
It is YOUR responsibility to turn in this form if you want to make your own choices!!!

Please submit Dual Enrollment Contracts to your counselor TODAY if interested in Algebra III DE!
IGPs and Consent forms must be filled out. You and your parent must sign the column for next year on the bottom of the IGP form.

41. Orientation
Orientation for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders will be the 1st day of school in the New Gym.
Registration fees of $30.00 are due.
Students who drive to school must purchase a parking permit for $10.00 in the office.
