2
Objective The students will understand how to use and read a protractor to measure angles. TEKS (6.8C) The student solves application problems involving angle measurement.
3
Math Journal Take a few moments to write the question and answer.
What is an angle? When are angle measurements important? How many different types of angle are there? List and define them.
4
What is an angle? An angle is composed of two rays and a vertex.
5
Protractor A mathematical tool used to measure angles in degrees.
7
Let’s Measure an Angle Line up the vertex of the angle at the center of the protractor. We will use the inner scale because it is lined up with 0 degrees. The other ray is lined up with 130 degrees. The angle measures 130 degrees.
8
Measuring an Angle using the inner scale
130 ° 45° Subtract 130° -45° 85°
9
Measuring an angle using the outer scale
50° 135° Subtract 135° -50° 85°
