In Slovakia we´ve got compulsory attendance at kindergarten for one year when child is 5 years old. Children start their studies at primary school when they are 6. Primary school takes 9 years. When children are 15 they have to continue their studies at secondary school. Compulsory school attendance takes 10 years so they can stop after one year at secondary school or continue for 3 years until maturita – leaving exam. When they pass maturita - leaving exam they may go to university.

In our secondary grammar school here it is something different. We´ve got 2 forms of studies that last 4 or 6 years. When children finish primary school they can go to a 4- year form but if they want they can go here earlier, after 6 th year of studying at primary school, they can continue at 6-year form. Our grading system is from 1 to 5. Whilst 1 is excellent 5 means insufficient. 2 is praiseworthy, 3 is good and 4 is sufficient.
