New Multi-redox Htereocycles for Materials Applications
Piotr Kaszynski, Department of Chemistry, Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN The goal of this project is the development of a new class of heterocyclic compounds, such as 1 and 2 that readily undergo 1-electron reversible red-ox processes. In this context, we developed a convenient synthetic access to triazinium cations 1a–1d in a Ca2+–assisted intramolecular cyclization of appropriate fluorides. We also investigated the formation of functionalized verdazyls 2 by transformation of groups X an Y to control morphology of the solid. Chemistry leading to 1b was expanded and a series of 2-azinylbenzo[1,2,3]triazoles (3) was prepared as new bidentate ligands for Ru2+ as possible energy harvesting complexes. One such complex was extensively characterized by XRD, spectroscopic, and electrochemical methods.
