Who does what? The Project Director
The project director runs the group projects S/he takes part in assessing every project The project director should NOT be your first port of call if your group isn’t getting on - your manager should be The project director organises the peer assessment at the end and does the sums
4
Who does what? The Teamwork Facilitator
The teamwork facilitator provides instruction on working in groups You should NOT need to contact him/her S/he leads the de-briefings at the end of the project to help you learn from the experience and heal any open wounds The teamwork facilitator plays no part in the assessments
5
Who does what? The Group Manager
Your manager is an advisor only S/he is a line manager, not a project manager YOU must manage the project Your manager checks that workloads are fairly spread and deadlines are met The manager is NOT there to answer technical questions - that’s your job The manager contributes to the assessment
6
Who does what? The Group Customer
Your customer is NOT another manager S/he is only acting the part of a customer You must treat the customer as a lay person Your customer’s agreement to the specification constitutes a contract Any subsequent changes MUST have the customer’s agreement The customer contributes to the assessment
7
Who does what? The Group Member
You will receive an INDIVIDUAL MARK for the group project at the end of the day Don’t free-load - you’ll pay for it eventually Don’t exclude others or allow yourself to be Don’t contact your manager until Week 2 Don’t contact your customer before your manager - always prepare for the customer You contribute to your peers’ assessment
8
Key Deadlines
9
A word to the wise … Read Stuff
Read all of the instructions and descriptions yourself - don’t rely on others to read them Familiarise yourself with the deliverable deadlines and contents Read regularly for communications from the project director, your manager and your group Do your share of proof-reading the documents you submit as deliverables

Importance of your 3rd Year Average
Your average mark for Year 3, AT YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT, affects your final degree assessment Students graduating at the end of Year 3 Degree depends entirely on 3rd Year Average (and obtaining the requisite number of credits, of course) Students entering Honours in Year 4 3rd Year Average contributes 20% to final degree assessment at the end of Year 4 Students entering MEng in Year 4 3rd Year Average contributes 10% to final degree assessment at the end of Year 5
