As you read the following primary source, underline specific objectives that Jefferson outlines and prepare responses to the following questions.
Why would Jefferson want the Louisiana Territory to be explored and researched?
Why should Lewis be so careful in taking notes and what should be included?
What are possible outcomes of Jefferson’s investment?

The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the United States. The area was too large for only one expedition to map, Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to the northwest area and Zebulon Pike to the southwest.
