Background Information for Sustainable Aquaculture addressing in particular Environmental Protection
Commissioned by DG ENV and DG MARE; 9 month project; Cefas contractor; Objective: Guidance document for environmental legislation in relation to sustainable aquaculture development; Context: Drivers for sustainable aquaculture development (EU, MSs).

Guidance Document Shall:
Outline how best to manage environmental impact of aquaculture activities; Support potential realisation of mutual benefits between aquaculture development and environmental protection; Complement Natura 2000 guidance.

Process Review available information (e.g. Env legislation & impacts, activities, industry needs, MSs regulations, RBMPs, science project reports, etc.); Consult (workshops, survey, draft guidance document); Produce Literature review; Draft guidance document; Present results to stakeholders Comments, etc., Final Guidance.

Aims of the Workshop Share information relating to good practice (3 sessions): Examples of improving environmental performance in practice; Examples of sustainable aquaculture development; Examples of effective transposition & implementation of WFD/MSFD by MSs; We need your contributions!
