7 Mary, the Mother of Jesus
A Godly Woman

8 Was Mary a woman of Faith?
Can we find Mary in Hebrews chapter 11?

9 Who was Mary One the MOST special person in the Bible.
Mary, the mother of Jesus. Ladies, what a privilege to be the mother of the Savior. Mary was not “just” any girl, Mary was more than that. Mary loves God. Mary was honest. Mary was clean. Mary was a virgin. Mary loves her husband.

10 Who was Mary Luke 1:26-28 [26] Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, [27] to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. [28] And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"

11 Who was Mary Why blessed are you? Why Mary received this blessing from the Angel? Because many godly women were waiting for the promise from Isaiah to be fulfill that says: Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

12 Who was Mary Not only godly girls were waiting for the promise, but many godly people trust in the promises from God. Simeon says after holding the Baby. Luke 2:29-30 "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation Then Anna the old widow that was always serving at the temple says: Luke 2:38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

13 Who was Mary Luke 1:34-35 [34] Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" [35] And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

14 Who was Mary From the tribe of JUDAH!
Luke's genealogy of Jesus is thought to through Mary, not Joseph – Luke 3:23-38. Note that Jesus was supposed to be "the son of Joseph" But was "of Heli" (i.e., Mary's father) Which explains the apparent contradiction between Matthew's and Luke's genealogies. Mary descended from David through Nathan – Luke 3:31 While Joseph descended from David through Solomon – Mat 1:6,16 That she was descended from David is also implied by: The angel's statement that Jesus would receive the throne of His father David – Luke 1:32

15 Erroneous Teaching About Mary
Mother of God (Jn. 8:58) John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."

16 Erroneous Teaching About Mary
She had no sin (Rom. 3:23) Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, [47] And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. Luke 1:48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

17 Erroneous Teaching About Mary
Appears today in visions (Lk. 16:27-31) Luke 16:27-31 [27] "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, [28] for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' [29] Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' [30] And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' [31] But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'"

18 Erroneous Teaching About Mary
Never had other children (Lk. 8:19) Luke 8:19 [19] Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd.

19 Erroneous Teaching About Mary
Never died physically (Heb. 9:27) Hebrews 9:27 [27] And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

20 Mary, A Godly Example A Virgin… a person who has never had sexual intercourse.  Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary….Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:26-27, 34)

21 Mary, A Godly Example Submissive to God’s Will
And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:38) Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you…Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. (James 4:7, 10)

22 Mary, A Godly Example Faithful to the Law of Moses
And when eight days had passed, before His circumci-sion, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. (Lk. 2:21) And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD"), and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, "A PAIR OF TURTLE-DOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS." (Luke 2:22-24)

23 Mary, A Godly Example Faithful to the Law of Moses Not Impossible
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. (Luke 2:41) Not Impossible They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. (Luke 1:6)

24 Mary, A Godly Example In Subjection To Her Husband
And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:38) Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.” So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. (Matt.2:13-14)

25 Mary, A Godly Example Willing To Wait Upon the Lord
Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household. (John 19:25-27)

26 Can we learn anything from Mary this morning?
She was Submissive to God’s Will Mary was very special because she was submissive to God and never contradict His will. Are we willing to emulate Mary and be submissive to God and His Word? Hebrews 12:9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

27 Can we learn anything from Mary this morning?
Mary was Faithful to the Law of Moses Are you and I faithful to God’s law, keeping and doing all that is commanded to us in the New Testament? We Cannot pick and choose commandments like many are doing today. John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

28 Mary, A Godly Example Mary was In Subjection To Her Husband
No marriage is going to be pleasing unto God until we learn to be submissive like Mary was to Joseph and vice verse. God is the one who planned this institution from the beginning therefore He is expecting you and I to obey it. Colossians 3:18-19 [18] Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. [19] Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.

29 Mary, A Godly Example Mary was Willing To Wait Upon the Lord
Do not help God in anything. God does not need your help. Mary was waiting upon the Lord. A lot of things never happen in our lives because we pray but then we do not trust that for which we have prayed for. Believed that God can do it like Mary and it will be done for you. James 1:6-8 NKJV[6] But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. [7] For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; [8] he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

30 Jesus Invites You To Be His Servant
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
