Formation of Sedimentary Rocks
2
Sediment: small pieces of rock that are moved and deposited by water, wind, glaciers, & gravity.
-Range in size from huge boulders to microscopic particles.
3
Sedimentary Rocks: rocks formed from sediments that “glued” together by mineral growth.
4
1. Weathering Weathering: produces rock & mineral fragments known as sediment
5
Types of Weathering 1. Chemical Weathering: occurs when the minerals in a rock are dissolved or chemically changed
6
2. Physical Weathering: minerals remain chemically unchanged
2. Physical Weathering: minerals remain chemically unchanged. Rock fragments break off

2. Erosion Erosion: The removal & transport of sediment
4 Agents of Erosion Wind Water Gravity Ice/Glaciers
