1 Web-Based Information Science Education (WISE) Initiative
In 2004, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at UIUC in partnership with Syracuse University received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to develop an online education consortium emphasizing quality metrics, faculty development, and course share. Currently, 15 institutions in 5 countries (US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia) are formal consortium members.

2 WISE Coursesharing Offer spaces in online courses to students from other schools Once approved to enroll, the student registers at his/her home school but takes the course offered by another university Student must adapt to differences in technology and pedagogy

3 WISE+: Partnerships with Professional Associations
Example: Course in theological librarianship American Theological Library Association developed course recruited instructor advertised course GSLIS hired instructor registered students supported online delivery of course

4 Benefits of WISE/WISE+
WISE: students gain access to specialized courses from other universities, broaden their experience with online learning WISE+: model for professional schools to partner with professional associations for mutual benefit—support education for special areas within the profession
