1
Promoting small scale digital irrigation system
to boost agricultural production in Niger
2
Problem faced: Project aim: Food insecurity | Poor water management
-31.7% food insecure people -labor migration -only 20% of irrigable land being used Project aim: The "digital irrigation" project aims to implement irrigation systems on small scale to increase agricultural production through implementation of water systems supported by digital technologies for their design and management.
3
Strategic relevance and development
Across the transfer of digital irrigation technologies to farmers and expansion of irrigated lands, agricultural production is expected to increase, contributing in this way to guarantee the primary needs of families. The project will evaluate the inventory of potential and existing irrigable sites and technology transfer -Premilinary analysis (define the crop, the technology, the communities) -Planning of the irrigation scheme -Development of technical solution -The monitoring of crops and the efficiency of the water distribution and its regulation -Replicability and criticality of the project
4
Technical solution Boost agricultural production Improve food security
Increase water use efficiency Improve income Reduce labor force migration Develop agro food industry Solar power, water tank, distribution system , remote controller

NIGER&ITALY COLLABORATION
-Through the use of satellite data and drones for the monitoring and control of the territory itself. -Involvement of Italian companies and research centers can also be seen in view of training both on site and at the Italian offices of Niger personnel on digital technologies for irrigation and on infrastructures. Food industry could be developed to process crops(tomato, sugar cane,etc)- -Entry in a new market
