Spanish at Nolan Beginning/Foundations, Spanish 1, Spanish 2

2 Beginning Spanish FSA score of 3-5 is highly recommended.
This is an academic elective that will involve studying and online work.

3 Beginning Spanish A Spanish 1 curriculum is used, modified with flexible due dates and remedial opportunities. 

4 Beginning Spanish This course is NOT recommended for students who speak Spanish at home. Students with a working knowledge of Spanish can be placed directly into Spanish 1 their seventh or eighth grade year. 

5 Beginning Spanish For the first semester, vocabulary is the focus. Second semester includes grammar, sentence writing, Spanish syntax, and reading. 

6 Beginning Spanish Completion of this course will qualify students for a recommendation to take Spanish 1 while in middle school. Recommendation is not automatic. Recommendation is based on grades and effort as well as behavior indicating readiness to take a high school course while still in middle school.

7 Spanish 1 This high school credit course has a pre-requisite of Beginning Spanish, unless you are a fluent Spanish speaker. Focus will be on four language skills listening, speaking, reading and writing. 

8 High School Credits Students must maintain an A, B, or C average to stay enrolled in Spanish 1 and 2.  Students with a D or F will be withdrawn at the end of first semester. 

9 Spanish 1 Culture is an integral part of the course and is introduced through cultural immersive activities such as games, cooking, arts & crafts.

10 Spanish 1  Assessments vary and provide ample venues for students to showcase mastery of course concepts. This includes homework, projects, quizzes, and tests. Active participation is required.

11 Spanish 2 Spanish 2: This high school credit course has a pre-requisite of Spanish 1. 

12 Spanish 2 Students will learn new Spanish words that they can use day to day to talk about school and rules, express affirmative and negative ideas.

13 Spanish 2 Students will compare people and things, describe daily routines, express possession, describe clothing and shopping experiences, talk about the past, give and get directions, talk about their childhoods, discuss emergencies and rescues, and much more. Lots of culture too!
