3. Main Achievements and Highlights
Provision of scholarships to Master’s and Doctorate students
ACEPHEM provided support in terms of Scholarships for Master’s program students. The College of Medicine made advertisement for various Masters Programs that were available. From all the applicants that were shortlisted, ACEPHEM provided Scholarships to 37 applicants depending on their need. Out of the 37 Students, 19 are females and 18 males.
Similarly, the project provided Scholarships to 6 students who are pursuing their Doctorate Degrees at the Malawi College of Medicine. Out of this, 2 are females and 4 males.
Short Courses training
ACEPHEM organized short courses for staff and students from various Universities. The Main objective of the trainings was to prepare students to advance their understanding of research through critical exploration of research language, ethics and approaches.
There were 5 courses administered; Microsoft Access course, Research methodology, Manuscript Writing course, HPLC and Traditional and Complementary Medicine Course. A total of 148 people participated in these trainings (61 females and 87 males).

4. 3. Partnership Development
ACEPHEM has signed Memorandum Of Understandings with 9 Partner institutions. The main areas and scope for these MOUs include: 
Research and/or training;
Joint grant applications;
Joint symposia, International meetings, conferences, and workshops;
Exchange internships;
Exchange of information, teaching materials and equipment;
Mutual use of research space

8. Reporting and Compliances
Annual Work Plan in place and is being used by the project.
Annual Finance report was finalized and sent to World Bank by February 15th.
Audited financial report of up to 31st December 2017 was submitted by 15th February 2018
Functioning Audit Committee under University Council in place and holds its meetings periodically
Functioning internal audit unit for University in place and it is working under University internal audit
Procurement plan already prepared and shared with World Bank and approved by the university management

9. Challenges and/or Reflections
Delays in accreditation of Masters level as well as Doctoral level programs by National Council
The Centre is following up with National Council for Higher Education to accredit the programs (scheduled for June 2018)
Currently no regional board to accredit masters as well as Doctoral programs
Consultations are being made to find a regional body to accredit programs
Difficulties to attract regional/ international students
Adverts have been done regionally and stipends have been introduced to attract regional as well as international students
