Undulators Subgroup Summary April 20-21 FAC Review K. Robinson, J
Undulators Subgroup Summary April FAC Review K. Robinson, J. Pflueger Serial production Well in progress and in schedule 7.3M$ under budget deserves being mentioned Gives very good overall impression 1st Article in test at Argonne.

Magnetic measurements at SLAC
MMF is ready for occupation and on schedule. All problems are properly addressed. Transition from “hand-crafted and -tuned” methods from single items to serial production is very important. Well defined software tools are under development at SLAC They are to be used by technicians and help to preserve quality and measurement rate. This is strongly recommended. Time between delivery of the new bench and start of measurements is very short! Release time pressure and greate time for commissioning by: Rearranging the whole measurement logistics. Rework time schedule for installation of undulator segments in LCLS by using present time buffers.

Beam Protection System Dosimetry in Undulator section
Undulator Alignment Convincing alignment strategy was presented Plans indicate that specification will be comfortably met Beam Protection System Dosimetry in Undulator section Need is generally recognized. Dosimetry of undulator essential Especially needed during commissioning phase to limit dose deposition in undulator as demonstrated by recent FLASH experience. Activities need to be started soon in order to have a system available for commissioning.

Undulator Vacuum Chamber
Time’s getting short! First beam will be in spring 08 Status similar to Oct05 review Al-coating problem is not yet convincingly solved. Vacuum chamber design critically depends on a timely solution of the coating problem. First prototype results will be available in July 06 In the bends RMS roughness of coated surfaces are worse than Al extrusions Exact time schedule for decision making is recommended to reduce risks. Alternatives should be considered.
