FIGURE 1 Spindle images in oocytes after culture of 22 hours. Oocytes are at (A) M-I and (B) M-II stages, and the birefringent spindles were imaged with the PolScope. The insets in A and B are confocal microscope images from the same oocytes. Green images represent microtubules and red images represent chromatin. Scale bar = 20 μm. Wang. Spindle architecture in human oocytes. Fertil Steril 2002. Fertility and Sterility , DOI: ( /S (02) )

FIGURE 2 Confocal micrograph images of spindles in human oocytes cultured for 22 hours. Oocytes are at (A) M-I and (B–D) M-II stages. Oocytes did not have a spindle (B) or had irregular and multipolar spindles (A, C, and D). The chromosomes are scattered in the spindles. Green images represent microtubules and red images represent chromatin. None of the oocytes shown in this figure had a birefringent spindle revealed by the PolScope. pb: polar body. Scale bar = 10 μm. Wang. Spindle architecture in human oocytes. Fertil Steril 2002. Fertility and Sterility , DOI: ( /S (02) )
