2. Bio Born in Portland, Indiana July 1,1941.
Began having dance lessons at the Vera Lynn School of Dance.
Graduated from Barnard College in 1963.
while in college she studied at the american Ballet Theatre school
At the age of 23 in 1965, she began her own dance company, Twyla Tharp Dance.

Tharp has also worked on numerous TV specials such as PBS’ Dance in America and Baryshnikov by Tharp. She has also choreographed four full length Ballets as well as been a part of 6 hollywood films.

4. Style
Tharp’s choreography is known for its creativity. When first beginning her dance studio in 1965, she experimented with Improvisatory styles. Now her choreography features a variety of style ranging from Jazz and Ballet to Modern dance continuously expanding the boundaries of dance.
