1 AVID Overnight Field Trip
Parent Meeting

2 Trip Dates Freshmen/Sophomore trip to San Diego Area Colleges
March 22-24, 2019 Junior Trip to Northern California Area Colleges February 1 through February 6 (tentative date)

Mr. Stephen Stearns, AVID Teacher Mrs. Terry Mateljan Mr. Greg Cabrera Mrs. Lupe Moreno Overnight trips will have two to three teacher chaperones and two college tutor chaperones. Prior to the trip, parents and students will be provided with the contact information for all teacher chaperones on the trip.

4 Eligibility Maintain enrollment in A-G classes and maintain grades of C or better in all such classes, including AVID Must have signed AVID contract on file Students with no more than one D/F in an A-G class will be allowed to go, but must be actively attending tutoring/Office Hours for that class Student must maintain an excellent Attendance Record with few absences or tardies Students must be in good academic standing in order to attend overnight field trips. Students with only one D/F grade at the semester may be allowed to attend, but will need to show evidence of attendance at tutoring. Students with multiple D/F grades will not be able to attend because their time is best spent in their classes to bring their grades up. In addition, students with excessive absences or tardies will not be able to attend as missing additional school may not be in their best interests.

Students must exhibit excellent behavior and be in good standing at the school with no suspensions from class or school, detentions or Saturday School assignments. Student Eligibility must be maintained or student will be removed from the trip Complete all payments by January 14, 2019 A key component for participation in an overnight field trip is good behavior. Student disciplines records will be reviewed at the semester to insure that the students attending the trip will be focused, on task and serious about their education. Finally, students should have completed all payments before the end of January so that funding will be available for meeting the financial obligations of the hotel and other bills.

6 Required Paperwork Behavior Contracts and Permission slips
Parents Attendance at a Safety Meeting (Please make sure you complete the Survey) Rooming List Sign Up by December 4 -Behavior Contract & Permission Slips must be completed before students can sign up for a room. Please return a complete Behavior Contract Signature Page. Permission Slips will be issued in November. Rooming list will be available for students to sign in room G9 beginning November 26.

7 Estimated Cost Junior Trip will cost $375.00 per student.
$250 will be used for hotel accommodations for 5 nights $125 will be used for all meals and any admission fees Fresh/Soph Trip will cost $200.00 $125 will be used for hotel accommodations for 2 nights $75 will be used for all meals and any admission fees Costs for both trips are inclusive of hotel, all meals, any admission fees and transportation fees. Students are responsible for any snacks or souvenir purchases.

Deposit due asap to hold spot $50 for Fresh/Soph and $75 for Juniors (48 seats available first come, first serve) First payment due 11/1/18 Second payment due 12/3/18 STUDENTS WHO DROP AFTER DECEMBER 14 WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND Final payment due by 01/14/19 *Suggested Payment Amount - $100 for Juniors and $50 for Freshman/Sophomores Parents can pay the entire balance due at any time. Payment schedule is suggested. Payments can be made at any time and in any amount as long as final payment for the balance is made by January 14. Payments can be made in room G9 before school and at lunch. Payments can also be made in the Main Office through the school Bookkeeper. Students who drop after December 14 may not receive a deposit as hotel deposits and admission fees will have already been arranged.

9 Meals Meals will consist of some group meals prearranged by chaperones and some student choice meals. Money necessary for student choice meals is included as part of the total for the trip. General budget for meals is $5-10 for lunch and $10-15 for dinner. All breakfasts will be provided at the hotel Some snacks will be provided on the bus for long stretches of travel, but students are encouraged to bring their own healthful snacks as well. Additional money is not necessary, but can be brought according to personal habits or tastes. Breaksfasts will be provided at the hotel. Group meals are pre paid by the chaperones. For the occasional “student choice” meal, students will be provided $5 for lunch and $10 for dinner at these stops. Student appetites vary, however, and individuals with a healthy appetite or those who favor more expensive options may bring additional money if they desire.

10 Rules and Regulations All students are representatives and ambassadors of the Arlington AVID program, Arlington High School, and the Riverside Unified School District All school rules plus the rules on the Rules and Regulations page apply at all times Chaperones must know the whereabouts of all students at all times. All school rules regarding acceptable dress and behavior apply during this trip. In addition, students must follow the rules on the Behavior Contract for their safety. Above all, students should always be with the group or their buddy and chaperones should know the students whereabouts at all times. Parents – please review the Behavior Contract with your students before signing.

11 Itinerary Students must be ready in the front, Jackson, parking lot AHS for loading and departure at 6:00am on the departure date. Keeping scheduled appointments is critical; all students are expected to be on time throughout the trip and to keep up with the group on tours! Please review packet for a rough idea of a typical/sample itinerary. A complete Itinerary will be provided in January. The sample Itineraries provided are real Itineraries from a previous year and are indicative of the timing and the places we will visit on the trips this year.
