3 Stress A word with more than one syllable is called a polysyllable.
Citation form? How to write a word to help show pronunciation and stress. We use the ‘ symbol to as a citation form for stress. English words that are polysyllabic will have one strong stress. Try this: manage, final, finality, resolute, resolution, electric, electricity

6 Strong, weak and contracted forms
Try this: Megan had decided to fetch them from the hospital. Which words are stressed? Which are unstressed? Unstressed (or barely stressed) words are considered a weak form. Stressed strong form

7 Contracted forms Content + function words when contracted = contracted form Contracted forms are often stressed (strong form) even though they contain a function word.
