ELECTIVE COURSE SELECTION
6TH Graders have 4 options for electives: Art, Band, Choir, Orchestra Students have their elective class everyday in 6th grade. Some electives require additional fees and practice time at home. Choose what you really want to do.

On-level Readers Critical thinking 6th Grade TEKS No assignment to be completed over the summer. Self-motivated readers, enjoy reading Critical thinking with insightful, original thoughts 6th Grade TEKS at a deeper level of exploration and examination. Summer reading project

On level Vs. PAP Math On Level Math class Pre-AP Math class
Solid foundation of 5th grade TEKS Cover all 6th grade TEKS Much more challenging compared to 5th grade curriculum Multi-step problem solving Master ALL of the 5th grade Math TEKS Cover all 6th TEKS at a deeper level of application Should not require a tutor to keep up

Pre-AP Course Entry Open Enrollment
It is not required for math and science to be paired, but it is highly recommended. Although enrollment in these courses is open, the following should be considered by student and parents when considering enrollment in these classes.

Profile of a Pre-AP Student
Students should Have proven history of academic success in the subject area Possess interest in the subject area Consider balance of academic load with outside commitments Be actively engaged in their own learning, taking responsibility for work load and asking questions when needed. Possess high quality study skills and time management skills

Curriculum in Pre-AP courses often Is more rigorous/challenging Requires independent learning Requires outside reading and work

Profile of a Pre-AP Student
Pre-AP courses are designed to challenge students and prepare them for AP courses in high school. AP courses provide an opportunity for college credit while in high school.

Pre-AP Course EXIT At end of first quarter or semester, all students with an average below 70 will be removed from Pre-AP courses. Parents and staff may recommend a student exit if semester average is A written action plan will be developed by the teacher for students with an average of who remain in the Pre- AP courses.

Students will receive their student home access login information. In classrooms or the computer lab here at school, students will be guided through the process of selecting their courses for 6th grade. Paper copies of course selection will be sent home for parents to review and make changes.
