Le Conditionnel « Would »
2
Objectif: SWBAT: Use the conditionnel mood to discuss having car trouble.
3
Before we move into the next tense, we need to review.
Tenses we know: Present Passé Composé Imparfait
4
The Present: For er verbs, For ir verbs For re verbs e is s es is s
e it nothing ons issons ons ez issez ez ent issent ent
5
The Present: Verbs you do to yourself take the same endings, they just have a « se » in front of them. We know that se changes: Je me Tu te il se nous nous vous vous ils se
6
The Passé Composé This tense was what happened at one point in the past. It involves two words: etre/ avoir + P.P. Some verbs take être/ some take avoir. Remember our list? The second part, the P.P., changes the verb you’re using for er -é for ir -i for re- u
7
Examples J’ai regardé Tu es allé Il a frappé
8
The Imparfait This was what was going on over a long period of time.
This tense involves taking the « nous » form of the verb, chopping off the -ons and adding: ais ions ais iez ait aient
9
Examples: Je finissais Tu aimais Il regardait
10
Now that we have reviewed.
The conditionnel is the new tense we are learning. It means « would. »
11
How would you say « would »
1. find your stem 2. Add on the endings from the imperfect
12
1. Find your stem We find the stem by taking a verb and crossing out everything after the last R. trouver - stays trouver répondre - becomes repiner finir - becomes finir
13
2. Add on the imperfect endings. What were they?
Je ais Tu ais Il ait Nous ions Vous iez Ils aient
14
Example: I would love We know love is aimer Je 1. Go to the last R
2. Add on imperfect ending je ais So, it would become: Je aimerais
15
One last one We would look at Nous/ regarder 1. go to the last R
2. add in the imperfect ending nous regarderions
16
Irregulars These do not follow a pattern
17
For the next few We're looking at verbs that have different stems than the last r. Add the same endings that we have learned after them.
