1 My digital footprint By: Jimmy Wang Grade 9

2 How might my digital footprint affect my future?
Well on way i could affect greatly is from getting a job oppertunity. If my future employer saw that i commented something offensive or mean to someone i could get my reputation get ruined and will make it difficult for me to find job oppertunities. Who will want to hire a employee as unprofessional as that.

3 How might my digital footprint affect my future?
My digital footprint can also affect me in my education espicially my post-secondary education whether it is college or university. When I apply the admisson managers will always look at my social media and if they find anything that they don’t like it could ruin my chances of getting into post-secondary education. For example if they find a picture that I posted of myself doing illegal activities right away they will decline my application or if they find me making fun of someone that could also cause the removal of my application, so be careful online.

5 Strategies to keep a safe digital footprint
The first and easiest strategy is to think before you type. Think if what your typing is really nesscecery, will it help anyone, will it offend anyone and how will it look to yourself twenty years from now, think if you would be proud of it. The next strategy is to use privacy settings, because you don’t want everyone to know about your personal information like when you were born or where you went cause this could be dangerous if you leave your settings on public. Third strategy is to google yourself and see what’s already there about you online and what you can do to improve it or what you can do to stop it.

6

7 Strategies Pt:2 Another useful strategy is to be mindful of what you search because search engines like Google use cookies to track your browsing data, which is then sent to other places so that they could personalize your browsing expierence. Don’t overshare is a strategy you must know, because it’s dangerous online to share your personal details like where you are born and where you live or even what school you attend.

8

9 A message All I want to say is to watch what you post online cause if can greatly affect you it’s a fact that 48% of year old kids regret something they posted online and once you post it, it’s there forever. Also watch who you add cause 2/5 teens add unknown people in their friends’s list which could be child predators and also keep your account private and not let the whole digital world know about your personal life. About 42% of 15 year olds don’t put their account private which is basicilly putting their digital lives at risk. So be mindful and always think before you post because you never know how it will affect you.
