Perimeters of Polygons
Grade 6 Measurement Unit
2
Re-cap What does perimeter mean? How would you find perimeter?
What does area mean? How would you find area?
3
Perimeter and Area Perimeter is the distance around an object, you can get the perimeter by adding up all the sides Area is the amount of space it takes an object takes up, you can get this usually by multiplying length by the width – but it depends on the shape
4
Hands On... Using the shapes in front of you, find the perimeter of each. Measure to nearest millimetre
5
Do you think it’s possible for different shapes to have the same perimeter?
6
In class Task Individually, construct 3 polygons with the following perimeters: 30 cm 42.5 cm 15.5 cm
7
What did you notice about the shapes you drew and the shapes others drew?
