Page 27 # 1 A, 1B, 2B, 3A, 3B, and #5 – use complete sentences. BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. 1A. There are a few differences between a direct democracy and a republic. In a direct democracy everyone votes on everything. The issues are usually debated in an assembly of all citizens. It is not as efficient as a republic. In a republic, citizens are represented by leaders who make the decisions for them. In a democratic republic, citizens select their leaders, people they trust to make the decisions and laws.

1B. The importance of having a written law code is so that people can see it for themselves and will know what to do and not to do. They wont be punished for things they couldn’t learn about. 1B. Having a written law code is very important. People are able to see and learn the law if it is written. They are able to know what to do and what not to do. In this way, they will not be punished unfairly for laws that they couldn’t know about. 2B. The Crusades weakened the feudal system. The knights and lords were unified and stopped fighting one another. Also, the Crusades increased trade and made the merchants and workers more powerful than the knights and the nobles. All of this contributed to the end of the feudal system.
