OBSERVING THE SUN BY JESSICA TRAJKOVSKI & DANIELA MILOVIC 7G

ABOUT THE SUN The sun is a star that is found and seen in our solar system. The sun is made up of around 99.86% of the Solar System’s mass, while the rest only takes up 0.14%! It is around 1,392,000 kilometers (865,000 miles) wide, the Sun’s diameter is about 110 times wider than Earth’s. The sun is so big that it is possible to see it with a naked eye, from earth. The Sun’s core is around degrees Celsius! Because the sun is so hot and produces so much light, the light from the sun reaches earth in less than 8 minutes.

The sun is a star not a planet?!
The Sun is our most familiar star and not a planet. Like all stars, it gives off heat and light, but it seems very different because it is so close and bigger. Without the Sun, the Earth would be frozen and dark and no life could exist here. Every sunrise starts a new warm, bright day all thanks to the Sun!

The suns core The Sun's core is extremely hot, it’s made of atomic nuclei and electrons. Its temperature is about 15,000,000 degrees Celsius. The Sun’s core is called internal structure, which is made up of the inner core, radiative zone & convection zone. Followed by the subsurface flows, photosphere, chromosphere & the visible layer is called the corona. The suns core

Where the sun is in the solar system?
In the solar system the sun is the biggest star.

Solar Eclipses Eclipses happen when the Sun, Earth & Moon aligned, causing the moon to block the view of the sun (turning daylight into darkness.) These solar eclipses occur around one – two times each year. An eclipses lasts for a few hours until the moon moves on. This is how eclipses occur and look like :

Days & Years Our Sun has many purposes, this one of a few. Our planet rotates around the Sun, when Earth rotates fully around once we call that a day, when earth fully circulates the Sun we call it a year. For Earth to rotate around once it takes 24 hours, for Earth to circulate the Sun once it takes 365 days. ( hours)

Bright Facts The sun is out of one billion stars
The sun rotates every 27 days In ancient times people believed that the sun was a burning ball of fire created by the gods Without the sun earth could not support life The sun has spots The Sun’s core is 14,000,000 degrees Celsius while the outside layer is only 6,000 degrees Celsius. The Sun has been shining for over five billion years The sun is approximately 25,000 light years away from the milky way The sun is made of hydrogen and helium Can you believe that the sun can burn over seven million tones of natural gas every second! The Sun has ultraviolet rays that just by looking directly at the Sun can make you blind.
