8th Grd Sci Stnd 21: Phenomenon 8.ESS3.1 Phenomenon Activity: Tectonics and Resource Distribution A) Receive an index card from your teacher. B) Notice that the cards are labeled as follows: Mineral or Fossil Fuel or Groundwater C) Also notice that the cards have numbers on them. Examples: Mineral-10 or Fossil Fuel-1 or Groundwater-3 The numbers represent the amount for each resource. Your chairs/desks represent Earth’s continents & tectonic plates. D) Your teacher will divide the room into sections, and we will examine and discuss the distribution of resources in each section. Question: Are the resources evenly distributed in this scenario? Question: Is this activity a good model for how these three resources are distributed on planet Earth? (Why or why not?) Do online research. Explain. Get ready to share. Graph the data from your section: bar graph and circle graph
