The life of Abu Ubaidah ibn al Jarrah

Abu Ubaidah’s character
Was introduced into Islam by Abu Bakr. He was put through harshness from the kuffar. Abu Ubidah was always loyal to Allah and his prophet.

Fighting for a good cause
Abu Ubaidah took out the broken teeth of Rasulullah after the battle of UHUD. A letter was sent to Abu Ubiadah from Umar ibn al khattab. Umar needed Ubiadah’s help but Ubaidah was leading the muslim troops. At the end of UHUD Abu Ubaidah was one of the ten who defended Rasulullah from the Mushrikin.

The Difficult test in the Battle
Abu Ubaidah unknowingly killed his father, Abdullah ibn Jarrah. Rather, Abu Ubiadah killed the shirk inside the person of his father. The following part of the Quran was revealed about Abu Ubaidah and his father: “You will not find people who believe in Allah and the last day loving those who oppose Allah and his messenger, even though they be their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their clan…. Allah is well please with them and they are well pleased with him. They are Allah’s party. Indeed! It is not Allah’s party who are successful?”(58:18)

A Devoted Body Guard of Rasulullah
Rasulullah sent Abu Ubaidah to the people as a loyal and strong companion appointing him as their leader. Rasulullah gave him the good news of the Jannah. Abu Ubaidah was with Rasulullah until the day he died.

The death of Abu Ubaidah
Abu Ubaidah became a victim of the plague. He told his men when he was dying to make salah, fast the month of Ramadan, give sadaqah, make hajj and Umrah, give advice to each other , do not cheat and do not be busy with things of this life. He passed on his authority to Mu’adh ibn Jabal by telling him to lead the salah. Within minutes of giving this order he died.
