Motion and Graphs
2
Position- Time Graph Is a representation of vector motion on a graph
Indicates distance and direction from a reference point (displancement)
4
A. The dog moves from 5 metres away from the owner moving slowly at a constant speed of 1.6 m/s to the right. B. It stops at 9 meters for 2.0 s. C. It moves back toward the owner at a constant speed of 2.6 m/s to the left. D. It stops next to its owner for 2.0 s. E. It moves to the left at 0.5 m/s. F. It continues to move left at constant speed of 3.5 m/s G. In turns back toward the owner moving at a constant speed of 2.0 m/s to the right.
5
The slope (rise/run) shows the velocity of the motion
The slope of the tangent at a point on the graph = instantaneous velocity Instantaneous velocity is the change in position over an extremely short period of time
6
Velocity- Time Graphs The slope of this graph shows acceleration – change in velocity over change in time Read pg and write out steps on how to figure out constant acceleration and average velocity using this type of graph
