Tips for your TED assignment

2 What is a workshop?

3 What is a workshop? short (45 min to 2/3 days) educational program
designed to teach or introduce practical skills, techniques or ideas informal self-contained participatory

4 Why a workshop?

5 Why a workshop? Brainstorming Interactive learning
Building relationships Problem solving

6 Before Define goals Create an agenda (outline)
-icebreakers (to get everybody comfortable) -main points -visual aids/handouts/materials -discussion activities VARY your activities! Plan fun and interesting activities to make the information engaging and memorable.

7 During Get everyone involved with group exercises:
Small groups: so people are more comfortable talking and interacting. Mix up different types of people in each group. (different departments?) Monitor discussions (without necessarily getting involved) Give participants plenty of time to discuss and reflect in all activities. Record ideas. How? (You? Them?)

8 After Questionnaires. Why? To get feedback from participants
To learn about what could be improved.

9 Tips Time of day? Timing of activities? What to bring?
How can you keep people interested? What to think about with an international audience?

10 Tips Nafter lunch Be over prepared: if you think a block of the workshop will last 30 min, have at least an hour’s worth of materials for it Keep track of time Bring everything you might need (if you want the audience to write, bring pens and paper) Be enthusiastic … and keep cultural differences in mind!

11 Food for thought If the goal is to make a decision about something, the more people who attend, the less likely it is that you'll reach a decision. What can you do to reach a high number of people and a decision? Try to keep the number of people attending to a minimum (and send minutes after the event to people who might need the information.)
