Drs expression profiles for OreR flies infected with the various C. albicans strains. Drsexpression profiles forOreRflies infected with the variousC. albicansstrains. The C. albicans strains or sterile PBS were injected into OreR flies, and the pooled Drs mRNA levels – normalised to the non-immune ribosomal gene RP49 – from ten flies (five for each gender) were determined at 0, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours post-infection via qPCR. The Drs mRNA levels induced by each strain were expressed as fold change relative to the PBS injection (comparative CT method); owing to low-level Drs expression in response to the physical act of injection per se, fold changes at 6 and 12 hours might be slightly dampened. The given values represent the mean for three independent sets of injection (n=3), and the error bars show 95% confidence intervals. At each time point the data followed a normal distribution with equal variance, and a one-way ANOVA was therefore used to look for strain differences. Significant differences were found at 24 and 48 hours post-infection: 95% Tukey HSD intervals revealed that these were between only the cell wall Capmr1Δmutant and some of the clinical isolates (six at 24 hours, and 11 at 48 hours post-infection), not between any of the isolates themselves.
