DUAL ENROLLMENT What is Dual Enrollment and who can participate?
The Dual Enrollment Program allows high school students (9th-12th grade) to earn college credit while simultaneously working towards their high school diploma. How many college credits can students earn? Students can enroll in Dual Enrollment courses up to a maximum of 15 credit hours per semester or 12 credit hours per quarter. What college courses can students take? There are more than 200,000 courses currently on the approved course list.

THE PROS AND CONS OF DUAL ENROLLMENT (a deeper look)
College and high school credits earned simultaneously Possibly earn an Associate’s degree, Technical Diploma or two Certificates in one specific Career Pathway Access to University System of Georgia (USG) Institutions and/or Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Access to a wider variety of courses Reduce time to earn Bachelor’s degree Financial benefits (college and career) Opportunity to interact with adult learners Online classes Flexible scheduling (2 to 3 days per week) Less classes per semester A Premature decisions (academic, social and emotional maturity) Limited availability of classes on Henry County High School’s campus (Main Campus) Transportation to AAS Missing the high school experience - school activities Lack of Flexibility (required courses) No parental input Semester vs. Year-long courses HB 444: No 9th - 10th Graders may participate in DE (if passed) Southern Crescent is the only institution, in our local vicinity, that accepts 9th-10th Graders. Not all colleges accept DE credits (especially out-of-state schools)

The IDEAL Dual Enrollment student is: Self-Motivated Academically and emotionally mature An independent learner Proactive in completing assignments Consistently present for school/class Able to independently follow through with and follow up on necessary tasks to accomplish a goal Able to independently communicate with teachers (Self-advocacy) Effective at keeping up with school, events, and activities Able to maintain grades while involved in extracurricular activities

WHERE DO YOU START? Complete the “Are You Ready For Dual Enrollment Questionnaire”. Scores 18-53: Not A Good Candidate Scores 54-70: Might be A Good Candidate Scores 71-90: Good Candidate Complete the “Dual Enrollment Checklist”. Attend the Dual Enrollment Meeting at your high school Discuss Transportation to/from DE Campus with your parents Check College Admission Requirements (GPA, Test Scores, etc.) Check College Application Deadlines Take required Admissions Test (ACT, SAT or ACCUPLACER) Complete College Admissions Application Send College Your Official Transcript (1st one is free each school year with each additional costing $2.00 each.)

WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED!
Complete the backside of the “Dual Enrollment Checklist.” Bring Questionnaire, Acceptance Letter and Dual Enrollment Checklist to the meeting with your high school counselor. Complete the Dual Enrollment Participation Agreement and College Advisement Form (Must be completed EACH semester). Meet with your College Advisor to setup your college class schedule based on High School Advisement Create an account or login on the GAFutures.org website to request Dual Enrollment Funding for scheduled classes (Must be done EACH semester) Submit a copy of your College Schedule to your High School Counselor An Advisement Meeting must be completed EACH SEMESTER with your High School Counselor BEFORE meeting with your College Advisor. A NEW Participation Agreement and Funding Application must be completed EACH SEMESTER.

Summer & Fall 2019: March 18th - August 15th Spring 2020: TBD All Dual Enrollment advisement, schedules, and participation agreements must be completed at least 10 days before the institution’s deadline.

STUDENT EXPENSES Students may have some of the following expenses:
Course-related fees and materials required for a particular course (lab fees, materials, supplies, etc.) Fees that are optional to the student (parking, meal plan, room and board, graduation fee, etc.) Orientation fee, unless orientation is required Charges or fines incurred due to actions taken by the student (parking tickets, library fines, etc.) Lost or damaged book charges (cost of book minus the book allowance or $75, whichever is less)

HIGH SCHOOL POSTSECONDARY GRADUATION OPPORTUNITY
Students are awarded a High School Diploma and College Credential(s) after meeting all of the following (Senate Bill 2): 1. Successful completion of the following state-required high school courses (9th-10th Grade) or their equivalent: 2 credits - English (9th Grade Lit. and Comp., American Lit. and Comp.) 2 credits - Math (Algebra 1, Geometry) 2 credits - Science (Biology, Physical Science or Physics) 2 credits - Social Studies (US History, Am. Gov./Economics) 1 credit - Health and PE course (Health and Personal Fitness) 2. Completion of all required EOC exams Courses (8) Completion of an Associate Degree, Technical Diploma or two Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC) in one specific career pathway that lead to industry certification or license.

DUAL ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Courses taken through Dual Enrollment will not impact the amount of HOPE Scholarship funds that a student receives. Withdrawal from DE courses will result in an F (55%) on the student’s High School Transcript and negatively affect their Cumulative GPA and sometimes their HOPE GPA depending on the course. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the college is required to continue participating in Dual Enrollment. Students taking at least 12 semester hours or 15 quarter hours are considered full time Dual Enrollment students and may not need to report to the High School building. All Dual Enrollment students need a Woodland Parking Pass even if they are only here for one class. Students who are not full-time dual enrollment must take enough classes between their high school and college to be considered full-time. Woodland students take 7 year-long periods/classes per day.

MORE DUAL ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Students must seek approval from their high school counselor before making changes (DROP/ADD) to their college schedule. Participation may begin in fall of 9th grade year. A student’s 12th grade year concludes at the end of the spring term after four years of the student’s high school enrollment beginning in the 9th grade. Students may continue participation until they graduate high school even if their graduation requirements are satisfied early. Only degree level DE core courses can receive the .5 weight and meet the academic rigor course categories of the HOPE/Zell Scholarship. Colleges/Universities attended by Woodland Students: Clayton State University, Gordon State College, Georgia State University, Southern Crescent Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College

WITHDRAWAL FROM DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES
Due to Woodland’s Year-Long Class Scheduling, if students are enrolled in a Dual Enrollment Course 1st Semester, continued Dual Enrollment participation is required for 2nd Semester. If extenuating circumstances require a DE students be withdrawn from a college course 1st Semester or prevents a student’s enrollment 2nd Semester, Woodland High School Counselors will make their best attempt to place that student in a corresponding high school course or online credit opportunity to meet course completion and graduation requirements. Woodland High School must record all DE courses and grades on the high school transcript.

THINGS TO KNOW Only Full-Time DE students are eligible to take PE at any USG Institution. PE classes are not available to DE students at TCSG institutions. *Students must check with private institutions for their policies. Algebra II is a prerequisite to take college level math through Dual Enrollment. (Note: Algebra 1 and Geometry are prerequisites) Local systems earn and retain their FTE funding. As of July 1, 2018: A student is eligible for the Dual Enrollment Program funding up to a TOTAL of 15 semester or 12 quarter hours per term. Full-time Enrollment is not a requirement.

DUAL ENROLLMENT GRADING AND WEIGHTS
Henry County DE Grade Conversion – (The local system determines conversion scale for the college letter grade) Each final DE Course grade will receive an additional 10 points. Grade Weight - Only degree level core courses receive a .5 weight, up to a maximum 4.0 points, and count as “academic rigor” courses for HOPE Scholarship. Class Ranking - DE students cannot be excluded from eligibility for valedictorian and salutatorian except when a student has not been enrolled, in Henry County, at least 4 semesters preceding graduation.
