Summary of changes

3 Upskirting ‘Upskirting’ typically involves taking a picture under a person’s clothing without them knowing, with the intention of viewing their genitals or buttocks to obtain sexual gratification, or cause the victim humiliation, distress or alarm. It is now a criminal offence This may constitute sexual harassment

6 Action plan Update your safeguarding policies and other materials to reflect you are working to the September 2019 version Consider s128 checks on governors, mandatory if you are a maintained school Ensure your staff understand the seriousness of upskirting and take proper action if they suspect this has happened Ensure your staff have read, understood and can apply Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019. 1. We’ve all the changes and a checklist to help at 3. Safeguarding Network will be producing a staff briefing pack with presentations and scenarios for early years, primary and secondary settings for members which you can use at your first staff meeting back in the term. Membership is only £99 from now to Christmas and includes a comprehensive and structured in-house safeguarding training programme. An Ofsted inspector visiting one of our schools described it as a “game-changer” 4. Safeguarding Network have an online system to everyone with the guidance within 48 hours of it being released with a link, some guidance notes, Part I and Annex A and help each member of staff not only to confirm they have read and understood the guidance and related policies, but to then test that knowledge with quizzes and online scenarios. Participants each receive reminders then a KCSiE 2019 certificate once they have passed the quiz. The school receives weekly reports on where everyone is up to.
