Ohio Senior Professional Educator or Lead Professional Educator License Improved Teaching Practices Earn 10 contact hours toward IPDP just for applying and another 10 contact hours if granted Master Teacher Status! * Improved depth of understanding of standards used in Ohio Teacher Evaluation System School, District, Madison-Champaign ESC Governing Board and Community Recognition * each limited to 10 contact hours within a 5 year licensure period

MASTER TEACHER, 2015-2016 WHAT IS HISTORY OF MASTER TEACHER?
Per Ohio Senate Bill 2 and House Bill 1, the Educator Standards Board was charged with the responsibility to define a Master Teacher and to adopt criteria to use in determining whether a person is a Master Teacher. Effective 2011, the Master Teacher program became part of the new licensure structure.

MASTER TEACHER, 2015-2016 WHAT IS DISTRICT/ESC RESPONSIBILITY FOR MASTER TEACHER?
Local districts are charged with the responsibility of implementing the Master Teacher program through district determined procedures and guidelines developed and applied consistent with legislated and Ohio Department of Education guidelines.

MASTER TEACHER, DOES MADISON-CHAMPAIGN ESC HAVE A MASTER TEACHER COMMITTEE? YES! This is the 5th year for our ESC Master Teacher Committee comprised of teachers and ESC Administrators Committee members use rubrics developed by the Ohio Department of Education. Those on the committee earn contact hours for their participation.

MASTER TEACHER, 2015-2016 WHAT IS DEFINITION OF A MASTER TEACHER?
A Master Teacher demonstrates excellence inside and outside of the classroom through consistent leadership and focused collaboration to maximize student learning. A Master Teacher strives for distinguished teaching and continued professional growth as specified by the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession. These are the same standards our new teacher evaluation is based upon this school year.

MASTER TEACHER, Two chances to submit application for initial and renewal… January 7, 2016 and February 26, 2016 You are encouraged to submit in January so, if needed, you’d have a 2nd chance in February.

MASTER TEACHER, 2015-2016 WHAT IS THE MASTER TEACHER APPLICATION PROCESS?
Submit Master Teacher Intent Form to submit a Master Teacher application by October 21, 2015. Register to attend an information session on the Master Teacher application process and to receive your personal application number, October 28, 2015 from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m. This is for initial and renewal applicants. Submit the completed application with artifact evidence and two recommendations by either January 7, 2016 or February 26, 2016. The required forms are available by going to and clicking on Master Teacher (under the blue banner labeled Staff Information).

MASTER TEACHER, 2015-2016 THE SCORING PROCESS
Each of the five narrative components will be scored twice by Committee members. A score report is provided to each applicant which includes written feedback with a month after due date. Artifact evidence is returned to the applicant to be available for the duration of the Master Teacher designation.

Effective for Five Years Is Transferrable Required to “advance” to Senior Professional Educator or Lead Educator License May Reapply When Designation Expires

What happens if my application
MASTER TEACHER, What happens if my application is not approved? Candidates may reapply for the next scoring period or the following school year as well.

MASTER TEACHER, SUGGESTION Apply for January date – that way if you need to improve some aspect you have second chance for February date.

MASTER TEACHER, Renewal Process Candidates may choose either Year Four or Year Five of their Master Teacher designation Year Four Renewal: Renewal status will take effect when the current five-year designation expires Renewal Process Candidates may choose either Year Four or Year Five of their Master Teacher designation to complete the renewal process. If renewal takes place during year four, the renewal status will take effect when the current five-year designation expires.
