5 Issues and Challenges in Gender Sensitive M&E
Assumed “gender neutrality” of M&E methods and processes M&E units directors and other technical staff may lack awareness of gender issues. Female may often be under-represented in evaluation and interview teams. Female may not be able to express themselves freely Obtaining information from both female and male may increase the cost and time of data collection. Slide # 4

6 Integrating Gender into M&E
Are there differences in inputs and activities based on gender? Are there different outputs based on gender? Does the program cause different outcomes based on gender? Are there differences in impact on gender groups (causality)? Slide # 5

7 Group Work (30 minutes) Distribute a copy of the Questionnaire “Pilot Testing of Agriculture Index – Uganda: Individual Level Questionnaire.” In small groups, participants will: Review the questionnaire. Particularly Modules B through F of the questionnaire. Keeping in mind the project you are currently involved with, do you see any question that could be relevant to your project? Slide # 6

8 Group Work (30 minutes) Select 5-6 questions from this survey that could be used or adapted in your project to monitor the following: change in empowerment of women (select 2-3 questions) how food security/nutrition is improved by integrating gender considerations (select 2-3 questions) Slide # 7
