CUSP Projects Examples Respiratory: VAP Project; Respiratory department communication; Non-invasive flowsheet update; Watcher meetings; Adding Watcher column to Sunrise Perioperative: Stretcher Process Project: “If it’s broke, revoke” 3WE: Bedside Shift Report; CA/RN Communication; Bed Flow; Safe Lifting and BMAT; Standard Work for Vital Signs & Blood Sugars;O2 tank issues MICU: Blood Culture tubes; Pulse Ox Probes; Organizing/decluttering Stock Rooms; Bair Huggers; C. Diff prevention; EVS & Cleaning Contact Isolation rooms; Room cleaning to prevent nosocomial infections ▪ The Staff promotes a Culture of Safety in their Unit. Unit Staff identifies any Risk for Patient Harm on their Unit (e.g. Unsafe conditions, missing equipment, anything that might lead to preventable patient harm) and develops a plan for improvement. The Unit Team works to improve and reinforce good communication, teamwork, and safety leadership in their unit. NCC: Falls Reduction; Wingman project; Dealing with impulsive patients; CAUTI; Revising report sheets Perinatal: Pink Visitor stickers & Visitor Guidelines with scripted instructions; Alarm Management project; Ephedrine; Epidurals, Scope of practice; Pitocin Management IPU: Infection Control Project; Vascular access-PICC lines; Call Cases; Debriefing; tPA; Sit Tracker roll out to Pulmonary; Functional IVs for procedures via Sit Tracker; Sit Tracker for Service Recovery; Working with Pharmacy regarding antibiotic availability Background The funding for the education and training of our CUSP Units has been generously provided by a community member who is passionate about our patients’ safety. Our CUSP Units are proud to carry that passion forward in their daily efforts to promote and ensure safe patient care. “The Numbers” Education: First CUSP education class January Additional classes May and June 2015.
