3. Finish Your Character Maps!
You have 15 minutes to finish your character maps! Then you will be presenting them!

4. Helpful Vocabulary
Conform: Of a similar type or form. (For a person) Go along with the socially acceptable rules and conventions. What groups are you a part of? How do you CONFORM in your daily life?

5. Helpful Vocabulary
Reject: Refuse to consider or accept something like an idea or a physical object. To cast out What might you reject in your life? Have you ever felt rejected?

6. Character Analysis Which characters are CONFORM to the community?
Why do you say that?
What do o that makes you think that these characters are strong parts of the community?
Which cthey dharacters REJECT the community?
What have they done that makes these characters outside the community?
Is it possible for a person to both conform and reject the Community in The Giver?

7. Character Map Presentations
Explain your drawing
Explain all of the different parts - head, eyes, mouth, heart, hands, feet.
Explain why you decided your character is someone who conforms to or rejects the community.

8. Review Chapter 21 (beginning)
What happens at the beginning of Chapter 21?
Why does Jonas leave early?
Do you think he made the right choice?

9. Group Reading! In your groups, read the rest of chapter 21.
EVERYONE must participate in the reading out loud. You may not read by yourself.

10. Group Discussion
In your groups, answer the following questions. Have ONE member of the group write your answers on a separate sheet of paper. You will turn it in at the end of class!
What happens in this chapter? Summarize the events you have just read.
Why do you think Jonas makes the choices he does?
What choices would you make if you were Jonas?
What do you think will happen next? How will the book end? What will happen to Jonas and Gabe?
