1 Folders: magic technology for organization

2 When we try to get organized, sometimes the most obvious help is also the most humble.

3 What if you had a set of folders for each class?
You might even have a different color for each subject.

4 Stop and think: how many would you need?
Too many folders: you have to stop and figure out where each piece of paper should go. Too many decisions. Too few folders: all the papers are jumbled together and you can’t find what you need.

5 You might begin with 3 folders.

6 As follows: Reference. This is for all the articles, background info, reference charts, syllabi, and other info that you want to keep to refer to throughout the course. This becomes like your portable library.

7 Upcoming work. This is for assignment sheets and all work in progress toward larger assignments. Notes, drafts, rubrics, outlines, graphic organizers– all stow safely in one place for easy access.

8 Completed work. This folder is where you put all the papers you have written, tests you’ve taken, and homework completed. It becomes a record of your achievement and your learning.

9 What are those folders again?
Reference. Upcoming work. Completed work.

10 Is this the only way to organize your coursework?
Of course not.

11 Your teacher might have other advice or even requirements.
If your teacher tells you a different method, do it. They’ve been teaching a long time and have experience of how it works best.

12 But if right now your organizational system looks like this:

13 You might want to give it a try.

14 Reference. Upcoming work. Completed work.

15 It might make your life a little easier.

16 These organizational skills resources are available on the Class of 2018 webpage:

17 If you need additional help with time management or any other organizational skill…
Please tell your advisor. Your advisor will contact Mrs. Semisch, who is available to work individually and in small groups with students during advisory.
