2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of August 27, 2018 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Ask and Answer Questions We will continue to ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, where, how, and why to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the August writing calendar (homework binder) Math Go to the class webpage, click on “fun links”, then enjoy “Word Problem Practice” Practice math facts (using flashcards or create your own using index cards) Math: Word Problems We will use addition and subtraction to solve one-step word problems within 20. Spelling Choose an activity from the Speller’s Choice Board Watch the S.O.S video on the class blog under the “homework resources” tab and practice with your spelling words (where, how, why) Writing: Writing Workshop Launch We will continue writing personal narratives and focusing on small moments when we write. Great writers magnify small moments by adding details. Reading Read for 20 minutes Practice jotting down questions as you read – who, what, when, where, how, and why. Now try to find the answer! Science/SS/Health: Matter We will describe and classify different objects according to their physical properties and construct an explanation for how structures made from small pieces can be disassembled and then arranged to make new and different structures. We will also explain how some changes in matter caused by heating and cooling can be reversed while others are irreversible. S.S./Science Go to the class webpage, click on “fun links”, then enjoy “States of Matter” Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Collective Nouns We will learn how to write and use collective nouns (a group) when speaking or writing. Ex: army of ants school of fish FLOSS Rule When /f/, /l/, /s/, (or /z/) is heard after a short vowel at the end of a one-syllable word, it is spelled with a double ff, ll, ss, or zz.
