What are seeds? Seeds are tiny, young plants
All seeds have small leaves, roots and stems inside them They also have built in food supply to help them start off growing Different seeds can look very different to survive in different environments

Inside a seed All seeds have 3 main parts
Seed coat: the tough outer layer of the seed Embryo: The tiny plant inside the seed Food Store: The food to help the plant grow Food Store

2 types of seeds Monocot seeds Mono = 1
Monocot seeds only have 1 leaf attached to the embryo The food around the seed is called endosperm This kind of seed does not split into 2 when the seed opens

These types of seeds have 2 leaves attached to the embryo This type of seed DOES split into 2 when it opens

How do seeds get around? Seeds have to be moved to a place away from the original plant When a plant starts to grow from a seed it is called a seedling Seedlings cannot compete form water and sunlight Moving the seed around is called SEED DISPERSAL

Seed dispersal Seed dispersal can happen in a whole bunch of different ways Wind Water Animals (on fur) Animal (eaten) Human activity
