7 A ratio is a comparison of two numbers by division.
To write ratios, use the word is to, a colon, or a fraction bar. EXAMPLE : John read 3 books in 4 days. Write the ratio of books to days. Words/phrase : 3 is to 4 Colon: 3:4 Fraction: 3/4

8 EXAMPLE #1: Carl and Patrick are twins
EXAMPLE #1: Carl and Patrick are twins. Carl has 10 pieces of “biribid” and Patrick has 5 pieces of “salukara” . Write the ratios of biribid to salukara. Expressed it as words, colon and fraction. Colon: 10: 5 Fraction: 10/5 Words/phrase : 10 is to 5

3.) 15 minutes to 2 hours 15 is to 120 15/ 120 15:120 Try to examine the answer for number 3. When ratio dealing with measurements, a ratio must be expressed using the same unit of measurements. Ex. 15 minutes to 2 hours Since minutes and hours are different unit of measurement we cannot answer immediately by writing as 15 :2, we must convert first the hours into minutes. So, 2 hours = 120 minutes. That is why, the answer of number 3 became 15:120.

13 Apply your skills Your father told you to buy 2 kilos of “kuyog” and 4 kilos of “tarukog.” Now using the three ways in writing the ratio. Expressed the ratio of tarukog to kuyog?

14 Generalization How do we expressed one value as a fraction of another given their ratio and vice versa. A ratio is a comparison of two quantities. A ratio can be written in three ways. - as a words/phrase - as a fraction - using a colon

Generalization A ratio maybe express in simplest form. The order of quantities must be considered in writing a ratio. When dealing with measurements, a ratio must be expressed using the same unit of measurements.

16 Evaluation Expressed the ratio of the following in three ways.(word/phrase form, colon form and fraction form) 1.) 3 books, 5 bags – ratio of books to bags 2.) 10 candies, 2 chocolate bars, - ratio of chocolate bars to candies. 3.) 7 boys, 9 girls- ratio of girls to boys. 4. ) 3 dogs, 8 cats – ratio of dogs to cats 5.) 6 forks,12 spoons – ratio of spoons to forks.
