CD4/CD8 ratio (left) or IL-5 mRNA– (right) positive cells per HPF were measured in the ethmoid sinus at the time of surgery and patients were classified 2 years later as either nonresponder or responder to surgery (see Methods). There was significant difference in IL-5 mRNA–positive cells between responder and nonresponder groups (P = .007, Mann-Whitney U test).
