Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at Suman

2 Agenda Problem Statement Proposed Solution Normative Text Walkthrough
Motion Suman

3 Problem Statement TGr draft proposes two Types of FT Handshake,
Base Mechanism Reservation Mechanism As per PICS, Base Mechanism is Mandatory & Reservation Mechanism is Optional STA/AP MUST implement Base Mechanism STA/AP MAY optionally implement Reservation Mechanism If STA/AP decides to not to implement Reservation Mechanism, they should be able to use Base Mechanism to perform FT Suman

4 Problem Statement (Contd.)
Mobility Domain Information Element Reserve Option (from ): If Reserve-Option is set to one then the STA will not include a RIC in its Reassociation Request without first performing a reservation i.e. AP decides what FT Scheme network will support, STA has no say in this decision Optional for AP, Mandatory for STA Contradiction: Text in section contradicts with PICS Suman

5 Proposed Solution Change the definition of Reserve-option as below,
For AP: Used when MDIE is generated by AP & sent to STA If Reserve-Option is set to zero AP supports only Base Mechanism STA has to use Base Mechanism only If Reserve-Option is set to one AP supports Reservation Mechanism in addition to Base Mechanism STA can choose any one scheme For STA: Used when MDIE is generated by STA & sent to AP If Reserve-Option is set to zero It indicates to AP that STA plans to use Base Mechanism If Reserve-Option is set to one It indicates to AP that STA plans to use Reservation Mechanism STA can set this bit to one, only when MIDE from AP had Reserve-Option bit set to one Suman

6 Normative Text Walkthrough
Open Proposal Text Doc#: r-normative-text-reserve-option-contradiction.doc Suman

7 Motion Move to adopt the text of r-normative-text-reserve-option-contradiction.doc into the TGr Draft Mover: Seconder: Results: Yes No Abstain Suman
